Dolly Parton was the fourth child of her family of 12 children and was born on January 19, 1946. Robert Lee Parton, her father was a tobacco farmer by profession and her mother was known as Avie Lee Parton. Dolly spent the earlier years of her life in a rundown farm located at Locust Ridge, Tennessee, USA.
She was a talented singer right from a very young age and was making regular appearances on the Knoxville television by the time she was 12. What more, she was signed up by a small record label and was appearing regularly at the Grand Ole Opry when she was just 13. After completion of her high school education in 1964, Dolly made a move to Nashville for launching her country music career. The same year she met with Carl Dean in a Laundromat and it was love at first sight! Carl was into asphalt paving at that time and the couple got married in 1966 after having courted each other for two years. Such was and is their love that both Carl and Dolly are still happily married to each other!
Porter Wagoner of the popular “The Porter Wagoner Show” took note of Dolly’s singing talent in the year 1967 and immediately hired her for his show. Both of them continued their music partnership for seven straight years and produced many big hits of that time. Dolly’s career spanning over several decades has won her many Country Music Association Awards, Grammy Awards, Television Awards, Academy Awards and many more.
Later in her life in the year 1987, Dolly Parton made an appearance as herself on a popular television series titled as her own name ‘Dolly’. Not only was she regularly active in the music, film and television industry all this while, her interests also took her into other successful entrepreneurial ventures such as Dollywood Theme park in Smoky Mountains, Tennessee, Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show, Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede and Imagination Library.
